Speakers Shake Up the Gardner

TEDxBeaconStreet speakers Shea Rose and Simone Scazzochio are making music history this fall at a famous and venerable Boston institution, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Since its founding in 1903, the museum has hosted musical performances; Isabella Stewart Gardner was an interdisciplinary patroness of the arts and an avid fan of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 2012, the museum unveiled the new Calderwood Hall, an acoustically suited, beautifully designed performance space. This year, a new concert series called RISE is bringing new artists to the stage, thanks to the efforts of Berklee-educated musicians Shea Rose and Simone Scazzochio, both of whom are part of TEDxBeaconStreet this year.

RISE will bring newer forms of music to the Calderwood stage, including the soul trio King, Women of the World, and Liz Longley. Other Boston art museums have brought pop musicians into their performance repertoires, and the Gardner is catching on to the trend. The Boston Globe says that the museum “will judge the series’ success first and foremost by the attendance and the diversity of the audience”; their goal is to attract younger patrons and start to efface the Gardner museum’s somewhat snobbish public image.

Shea Rose spoke at TEDxBeaconStreet 2014 about recapturing her voice and her unique style of expression. She and Simone Scazzochio bring this passion for unique voices to the organization of RISE, where young artists will take the stage with soul, pop, and folk music.

Isabella Stewart Gardner and TEDxBeaconStreet share a passion for interdisciplinary work, great art, new frontiers. We’re very excited to see what our two musician singers bring to the stage this year, both at the Calderwood and on our stage in November!
